New Caledonia is a sophisticated destination ... a tropical French Riviera in the middle of the South Pacific. With more sheltered water than any other Pacific island and a huge coral reef system it is a magical destination for a luxury yacht charter and a perfect place to enjoy all manner of water sports. Remarkable natural beauty sits beside a a relaxed European elegance in a warm sunny climate.
ABOUT NEW CALEDONIA YACHT CHARTERS
Most charters start in Nouméa, located on the south west coast of the main island of Grande Terre. Nouméa is the provincial capital and a cosmopolitan city with a colourful waterfront lined with bars, cafes, restaurants and nightclubs.
This Pacific Island nation is stunning with a spectacular coastline and some incredible stretches of white sand beaches as well as one of the richest tropical forests in the world.
New Caledonia also offers some of the finest gourmet experiences outside of France. Enjoy dinner cooked by a Michelin-trained chef. Freshly baked croissants, baguettes and patisseries are served alongside the freshest of tropical fruits and seafood. Savour delicious French wines beneath the palm trees with your toes in the sand.
Culturally New Caledonia is also a unique blend of the indigenous Melanesian people, the Kanaks, and the French. A strong Melanesian tradition in architecture and the arts and crafts combines with a distinct French influence and a European style and elegance.
New Caledonia consists of two distinct cruising areas:
- The popular Southern Province which includes the world's largest lagoon and second largest coral reef. On the UNESCO World Heritage List this area is home to an archipelago of beautiful islands and over 900 species of coral, some of which are unique to New Caledonia. This is a favourite place for spotting humpback whales which migrate here between July and September. The spectacular Isle of Pines is also located here – this postcard-perfect island with gorgeous reefs, powdery white sand beaches and the clearest of turquoise waters is considered the Jewel of New Caledonia.
- Running in a line some 100kms off the East coast of Grand Terre the Loyalty Islands feature three main islands Lifou, Maré and Ouvéa - as well as several smaller islands and islets. These unspoiled palm-fringed islands are sparsely
populated with immaculate, secluded beaches, hidden caves, deeply carved cliffs and lush, impenetrable bush. There is a wild beauty here and a welcoming population that adds both a Polynesian and English influence to the mix. This is off-the-beaten-track tropical cruising at its finest.
With something for everybody New Caledonia is a magical place to explore by luxury charter yacht.
